A Safe Switch at the Sink

I’ve been doing the #SafeSwitch for all the products in my home over the last 4 years, slowly but surely trading our traditional products for safer alternatives. I’ve changed everything from my makeup to how I clean my kitchen counters. We rarely use traditional medicine anymore, unless it’s truly needed. Even my kids ask for oils when they’re hurt or sick!

But a safe AND affordable dish soap has eluded me!

Our dishes hold our food, which goes directly into our bodies. It seems like one of the most important places to keep toxin-free, right? Yet somehow it became one of the last things on my list to switch out for something safer.

I used a “green” brand of dish soap for a long time, until I stumbled across the Environmental Working Group’s Guide to Healthy Cleaning and discovered it wasn’t very green at all. (I’m not going to throw any brands under the bus, but if you’d like to know what I used, send me a message and I’ll let you know.) I was shocked and frustrated. As with many items on the shelves right now, their packaging made it appear like a non-toxic, safe choice and it just wasn’t.

After that, I tried Young Living’s Thieves dish soap. While I did feel secure in using a truly safe product, the cost wasn’t great. I couldn’t see myself using this dish soap forever, because it was just too expensive.

Then I found my Vegan Soap Bar! And I couldn’t be happier.

This beauty is truly safe. It’s palm oil-free, cruelty-free, SLS-free, fragrance-free, phosphate-free and biodegradable! Even better, it appears that it’s going to last a LONG time. I’ve been using it for one month now and this is what it looks like:

On top of constantly searching for non-toxic household products, I’m also frugal. So this Vegan Soap Bar really meets all my needs.

Using asoap bar for dish soap did take some getting used to at first. I rub my Norwex Dish Cloth on the soap bar for several seconds and rub the cloth back and forth with my fingers to get it nice and sudsy. Then it stays sudsy through an entire sink full of dishes! I don’t have to touch the bar again. I can tell this bar is going to last several months. (It can also be used with regular sponges. I just love my Norwex cloth because it never gets stinky and it lasts a couple of years.)

The more we all become aware of what we’re using in our homes, the more likely it is that the big companies will have to change their policies and stop using unsafe ingredients just to save a buck. Let’s make a change with our wallets and stop buying toxin-filled products.

Will you make the #SafeSwitch at the sink with me?
